Ahead of its official debut later this year, Volkswagen has released a preview for the next generation Polo hatchback. This is the sixth generation for the hatchback since it was launched in 1975 and it will, for the first time, move to the automaker’s MQB platform. We have already seen the car sans camouflage and this video now confirms the shape of the new car.
The new Polo, as we have seen in the pictures, sports an evolutionary design but has grown in length and width. It gets all the signature elements of the Polo range like the grille, tail lamps and silhouette. There are no photos of the cabin made available yet. But we do know that it will be quite similar to the current car with added updates in terms of features.
This updated Polo will play a very important role in the future prospects of Volkswagen in India. Apart from the Polo itself, it will also form the basis for the Ameo compact sedan as well as the C-segment Vento. In the future, it is expected to underpin an SUV that will be derived from the T-Cross crossover concept.
These vehicles will be underpinned by the MQB platform pushing up their position in the market. To make their presence felt in the lower parts of the market where the big volumes exist, we believe that the current Polo will become the basis for badge shared models with Tata. The German automaker and Tata had announced, earlier this year, that they would collaborate to produce cars together.
