The next generation Toyota Fortuner has been leaked in the metal ahead of its official debut later this month. The pictures reveal a completely new external design as well as upgraded cabin which is in line with the design of the Hilux pickup truck that was unveiled last month.
Pictures of the fascia reveal a chrome heavy, twin-tier design that sits well ahead of the front wheels, an element that the current car design seems to have used well for the ‘in-your-face’ factor. The headlamps in the new Fortuner are now angular units that stretch from the edge of the grille to the middle of the wheel arches.
The side profile reveals a sharply raked roofline, softly flared wheel arches and rather small wheels. Despite a change in the former, it appears that the new Fortuner has retained the stance of the current model right down to the rake angle of the C-pillar.
The rear now gets premium looking wrap around tail lamps which extend well into the side of the SUV. In an interesting move Toyota has managed to retain all the rear elements of the vehicle and has even kept the same layout despite some of them getting new designs.
The layout of the cabin has been carried over from the current SUV but the centre console is completely new and features a large touchscreen infotainment system as well as beige coloured seats. We believe that Toyota will upgrade the feature list significantly from the current vehicle.
On the engine front, this 2016 Fortuner will get the new 2.5-litre diesel engine as well as the 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol. Gearbox options are expected to include a five-speed manual as well as five-speed AT.
The Toyota Fortuner is a major seller for the Japanese automaker’s Indian arm and that means outside of the SEA market, we will be one of the first to get the SUV. Expect it to be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo.
