The Suzuki Wagon R has been a major seller for the Japanese automaker. Its tall boy design and quirky looks meet all the kei car requirements of the Japanese government but at the same time have made it an equal hit among buyers. Now, Suzuki will, tomorrow, launch a new generation for the Wagon R in the Japanese market.
This sixth-generation Wagon R for the Japanese market will get a new design, revised feature list but retains the same familiar silhouette and underpinnings as the outgoing model. Leaked images indicate that the highlights of the new design philosophy are the revised grille, head lamps and tail lamp section. Inside, it is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and black/beige coloured trim for seats and panels.
The Japanese market gets the Wagon R with a 660cc petrol engine that produces 50bhp/60Nm. Hybrid models also get an electric motor 2.8bhp and 50Nm of torque. All variants get the option of all-wheel drive.
We in India will get the same car probably later this year. It will sport the new design but have the same underpinnings as the current car. This means it will be offered with the 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 67bhp/90Nm. It can be had with a five-speed MT/AMT as well as with CNG and this is expected to continue with the new car.
