Skoda has said that it will launch the next generation Fabia hatchback in 2014. The Czech automaker in an interview with AutoExpress said that the new car will get a completely new design which includes larger proportions but will remain faithful to the basic ideals of the car. However, the biggest revelation is that the next gen Fabia will not make use of parent company Volkswagen’s MQB platform.
It is expected to look pretty similar to the Octavia and the European Spec Rapid both of which have been derived from the Vision D language. While it will not use the MQB platform, it is expected to get the same set of engines and most probably feature list as the next generation Volkswagen Polo which is also due to be launched next year. Skoda has also said that it will not have a vRS version of the Fabia in the next generation but will continue with the Estate model.
The Fabia has not been much of a seller for the Czech automaker in India for a plethora of reasons and that means that we are a long way off with regard to getting this car. However, what we can expect after the 2013 Octavia which will be launched here on the third of October is the facelifted Yeti and Rapid sedan.
