Nissan will bring a new X-Trail to India next year. It’s a completely new vehicle though we believe it looks like an evolution of the old one which is not such a bad thing as that seems to be way forward for manufacturers across segments.
Underpinned by the Renault-Nissan CMFA platform, it gets an updated exterior design, cabin layout and feature list.
The boxy looks have been replaced by a curvier appearance which has given the car a gentler disposition. Some of the noticeable external elements include the V-shaped Nissan badge, boomerang-shaped headlamps, multi-spoke alloy wheels and large pseudo bash plate element at the rear.
Step inside and you are welcomed by the familiar Nissan elements taken from their common parts bin. This includes the steering wheel, infotainment system and instrument cluster.
It is a decently luxurious car and gets features like leather trim for the seats, rear AC vents and a panoramic sunroof.
The India-spec car will get a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 127bhp and 320Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. There is expected to be at least one variant with the AWD option.
We in India will get the car by the middle of next year through the CBU route. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh putting it in competition with Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Hyundai Santa Fe.
