The next generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been spotted on test in Europe. Despite being heavily camouflaged, the flagship SUV from the Japanese automaker shows an evolution in design as compared to the current model.
The boxy and conventional appearance that has dominated the vehicle for the last few years appear to have been ditched in favour of a more rounded and contemporary shape. This is more in line with the design of the L200/Triton/Barbarian. However, its ladder-on-frame design and butch looks have been retained.
On the engine front, the new vehicle is expected to get a variety of turbo diesel engines with outputs ranging from 154bhp to 181bhp and between 380Nm and 430Nm of torque depending on the market. There is also a 2.4-litre petrol engine which produces 128bhp and 194Nm of torque. The diesels get the option of a five-speed manual/AT as well as a six-speed manual while the petrol is only offered with a five-speed manual.
The vehicle is expected to make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and is likely to be launched for the European market a short while later. The Asian debut, including India, will happened during the first quarter of 2016.
