While Mercedes-Benz India is busy bracing itself for the launch of the GLA premium compact crossover, World Car Fans has managed to snag a new set of spy shots of the very important next-generation E-Class. Very important because the prototype has been spied featuring its own body shell.
Codenamed W213, the next-generation E-Class is already under development. The prototype caught is seen wearing heavy camouflage, which rules out any significant predictions on the design of the vehicle. That being said, the car does seem to feature a slightly longer wheelbase that the exiting E-Class.
The new E-Class is expected to be powered by a four cylinder as well as a new range of straight six petrol engines. The high-performance E63 AMG, on the other hand, could make use of the all-new 4-litre twin turbo V8 engine seen in the latest AMG GT. Also expect the brand’s new 9-speed automatic gearbox which is currently on offer in the E350 BlueTEC model.
The launch of the next-generation E-Class is still quite some time away. If we are to believe the reports, Mercedes could be launching this new model sometime towards the end of next year. Like the existing model, the vehicle will compete with the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF.
