-Next generation for the Indian car market
-New exterior design
-Expected to be longer than outgoing model
Images of the next generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R have been leaked ahead of its debut in 2019. This would be the third generation for Maruti Suzuki’s iconic tallboy and appears to be the most major update for the car.
In silhouette, the Wagon R shape has been retained but the car appears to have grown in length. There’s a new face that’s quite similar to one on the Ignis and rather swanky looking tail lamps that sit prominently on the edges of the C-pillar. While no pictures of the Wagon R’s interiors have been seen till now, we can be sure that it is going to be along the lines of what we have been seeing in the Celerio and Swift.
It’s expected to continue with the same platform and engine options as the current Wagon R and this means a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol producing 67bhp/91Nm. This will be offered with a five-speed manual as well as a five-speed AMT. Also expected to be on offer will be a CNG option.
The Wagon R, in this new guise, will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai Santro, Maruti Celerio, Tata Tiago, Datsun Go+ as well as the Renault RBC mini MPV.
