The next generation Mahindra Scorpio has been launched for the Nepali market for 3.57 million NPR (Rs 22.21 lakh). This follows the launch of the car in India on September where it was priced at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The all-new car is the most significant update for the SUV since 2006 and includes a host of changes both inside and outside.
External changes to the new Scorpio include projector headlamps, a new chrome grille, fog lamps and redesigned alloy wheels. The Nepali market will get the S2, S4 and S10 variants with the S10 getting projector headlamps with DRLs, new bumpers with fog lamps, a chrome grille and LED tail lamps. Common features across all variants are the black dual tone applique on the rear door, road bumper armour and the chrome bezel on the fenders.
On the interior front, the Kandivali-based automaker has fitted the S10 variant with climate control, parking sensors, TPMS and a 6-inch touch screen infotainment system. While the instrument cluster is all new, the upholstery has been revised and is now dual tone with the combination of grey and blue. Mahindra has also included height adjustment for the driver’s seat.
The Nepal-spec Scorpio will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHAWK four-cylinder engine that produces 120bhp and 280Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and in the 4WD models the changing from 2WD to 4WD can be done on the fly using a toggle switch in the centre console.
Mahindra produces the cars in India and exports them to Nepal. They will be will sold in the hill nation via Agni Incorporated, the exclusive dealers for Mahindra in Nepal.
