Next generation Hyundai Verna launched in India at Rs 7.99 lakh

The next generation Hyundai Verna has been launched in India at Rs 7.99 lakhs (all India, ex-showroom). It is available in four number of variants, with two engine and gearbox options as well as four new colour options. We have driven the car and you can read about our first drive preview here.

This fifth generation C-segment competitor from the South Korean automaker has got a revised design and now sports styling similar to the Xcent  and the Elantra. This characteristic styling is said to indicate the introduction of a 'family face' for all Hyundai cars. The silhouette of the Verna has been retained, but it now comes with sleeker tail lamps and chrome for the fog lamps. In terms of measurement, it is now 4.3-metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.58 metres - an increase of 15mm and 10mm respectively.

The cabin is done in beige and black with an updated feature list and some additional rear room. The new list includes a bigger touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, dual USB charging points, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs and climate control. Hyundai has also added Eco Coating for scent control, rear curtains and a hands free boot opening. The top-of-the-line model gets six airbags and ABS with EBD.
The petrol and diesel engines are 1.6-litre four-cylinder units producing 121bhp/151Nm and 126bhp/260Nm respectively. Both engines can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

In the Indian market, the Verna is Hyundai’s fighter in the C-segment sedan category, a part of the market that is gaining importance as second time car buyers’ move up the food chain. It takes on the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid.
