The next- generation Hyundai i20 premium hatchback has been spotted testing in Europe and this time’s set of photos include snap shots of the interiors. The car that has been spotted testing appears to be a base variant as it is has been fitted with steel wheels. The car has already been spotted testing in India and is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, followed by its Indian debut.
These set of pictures, for the first time, also reveal the rear of the car showing that the next generation i20 will get a funky and rather large design for the tail lamp assembly. The overall design for the vehicle is expected to be similar to that of the i10/Grand i10 with just minor changes to differentiate both cars.
From the spy pictures, we can also tell that the next- generation i20 will also be significantly larger than the current i20 due to the increased size of the 2014 i10/Grand i10.
The interiors have been revealed properly for the first time and show that the European- spec car, even in its most basic form, will get climate control, 2-DIN music system with all the connectivity options, basic audio controls on the steering and a slightly revised set of gauges from the current car. However, there is a possibility that Hyundai may have just fitted the steel wheels to throw the auto journalists and spy snappers off course and that what we may be looking at could very well be a mid-level variant.
It will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines-, the former is the 1.2-litre Kappa2 unit while the latter the 1.4-litre CRDI unit. The European markets also get the 1.0-litre petrol and the 1.1-litre three-cylinder diesel.
If the Hyundai Grand i10 is anything to go by, then the i20 will not disappoint in any manner when it comes to changing the game (a.k.a upping the ante) in the segment. Meanwhile, you can watch our vdieo reviews of the current generation i20.
