The next generation Hyundai i20 has been spied testing in Spain. Expected to be launched by 2014, the Korean automaker’s premium hatchback will take much of its new appearance, design and features from the 2014 i10/Grand i10. The car has already been spotted testing on Indian soil and is likely to make its global debut here.
The next generation i20 is expected to get a similar fascia as the 2014 i10/Grand i10 which means swept back headlights, a low but large front grille and tail lamps similar to those found on the i10. We expect that top spec variants will get a rear spoiler, parking sensors in the front and back, LED fog lamps and mirror-mounted indicators.
Since the i20 is already a segment leader in terms of interior features and option list, the only additions we expect are the new features from the Grand i10. The car will become longer and wider due to the 2014 i10/Grand i10 also becoming wider and longer.
It will continue to be powered by two sets of engines- a 1.2-litre petrol that produces 83bhp and 113Nm of torque and the diesel with a 1.4-litre unit that produces 89bhp and 219Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or four-speed AT for the Petrol engines and a six-speed manual for the diesel.
The new i20 will also be the first car to be modified into a performance vehicle under its newly created N performance division and should see the light of day sometime in 2015.
