The current generation Ford Focus has been around for some time now. The Mk3 Focus was introduced at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show. Since then it has been soldiering in hatch, sedan and estate body styles with multiple powertrain options (even electric). The next iteration of the Focus is scheduled to be introduced in 2018 and here are the first ever spy shots of the new-gen Focus.
Though Ford hasn’t divulged any details about the next-gen Focus, the car has been spied in Northern Europe with a heavy camouflage. As seen in the images, the hatchback seems to have grown in size. It is speculated to be developed on an all-new chassis, with a longer wheelbase compared to the current model. The new Focus seems to be wider and lower as well. The car is in its early stage of development and not much has been revealed by the test mule. But under the cladding, the new Focus will surely adopt a new headlamp design as seen on other Ford vehicles. The scowling designed grille is imminent while the trademark wrap-around tail lamps will make it as well.
The interior was hidden under the wraps as well, indicating the adoption of a new dashboard layout replacing the quirky one in the current Focus. The current generation Focus makes use of an array of powertrain, but it would be too early to speculate what will be powering the new gen Focus. The EcoBoost engine will be followed by the performance-oriented ST and RS variants as well.
The new-gen Focus is expected to soon make its first appearance at any of the major American auto show. It will take on the roads only sometime next year. The Focus faces competition from the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf.
