While BMW is still a long way from putting the next-generation 7 Series on sale, a prototype model of the car has been spotted on test again and this time, on a suburban street. The brand has been testing the new 7 Series for quite some time now, with earlier spy shots coming from Sweden during the vehicle’s winter testing.
The prototype seen here continues to wear heavy camouflage, making it really hard for us to comprehend any detailed updates. The new 7 Series is expected to make use of a heavily revised, lightweight platform. The car could lose as much as 200 kilograms over the existing models, thanks to a lightweight platform which mixes aluminium with carbon fibre and steel.
Powering this new model will be the updated range of petrol and diesel engines. This will include the high-performance V12 engine producing in excess of 500bhp of power. A plug-in hybrid version could also be a part of the new 7 Series range.
The new 7 Series will make its debut sometime next year followed by an official launch during the year end. Like the existing 7 Series, this new model will compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8 in the full size luxury sedan space.
