BMW is now busy developing the next generation 3 Series after the recently facelifted 5 Series. The seventh generation 3 Series will be codenamed G20 and is now speculated that it will do away with the GT variant in its portfolio.
According to the speculations, when the 3 Series GT will be phased out, the new 4 Series Gran Coupe will take its place as it seems implausible to have both the models coexist in the Bavarian manufacturer’s line-up. But the confounding matter is that the GT was always a more spacious and comfortable take on the 3 Series sedan, while the 4 Series Grand Coupe is a sleeker and a sportier alternative. The same will occur with the bigger 5 Series GT which is speculated to be replaced with the 6 Series Gran Turismo and is expected to be revealed in September at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The seventh-generation 3 Series is expected to carry its design cues from the facelifted 5 Series. When it arrives in 2018, it could have a longer wheelbase than the current F30 3 Series with a stronger sculpted body, new BMW family face and a luxurious cabin. The two-door and touring versions are expected to follow later.
In India, the facelift of the current generation 3 Series Gran Turismo was launched in October 2016. While the new generation G30 5 Series is expected to make it to the Indian shores sometime in mid-2017.
