Audi continues to run prototype models of the next-generation Q7, as seen in these latest spy shots from one of the world’s toughest racing venues – the Nurburgring in Germany. Due for launch sometime next year, this next-generation model will revive Audi’s popular full-size luxury SUV which has been in the market since 2006.
According to guys over at Auto Express who have managed to snag the photos, Audi also seems to be testing a plug-in hybrid model which could borrow the brand’s infamous e-tron powertrain. The vehicle is expected to ride on the MLB platform that could shave off as much as 360 kilograms off the overall weight. The next generation Porsche Cayenne, too, is expected to make use of the MLB platform.
With the lightened body shell, Audi will be able to achieve impressive efficiency for the new Q7. What’s more, the brand could even consider offering a smaller 2-litre, four cylinder engine in the Q7 for the first time.
The next-generation Q7 will be fully revealed sometime next year. Like the current Q7, the new and comprehensively updated model will also offer a high quality interior and a range of V6 and V8 engine options.
