BMW’s latest-generation 7 Series is the newest entrant in the ultra-luxurious premium sedan segment and the existing Mercedes S-Class is relatively new as well. The third-gen Audi A8, however, has been around since 2010 and is in need of a generation change. Naturally, Audi is readying an all-new generation of the A8 and what we have here is a speculative rendering of the German brand’s full-size luxury sedan.
Audi has started road testing the chassis of its next-generation A8 which is expected to arrive in the next couple of years. While the design of the prototypes is based on the updated version of the existing A8, the mechanical bits are entirely new. The new A8, in fact, is based on Audi’s MLB Evo platform which is an evolution of the MLB platform that underpins the current A8. The MLB Evo platform made its production debut in the latest-gen Q7.
Thanks to the modern architecture, the new A8 will benefit from significant weight savings over the existing vehicle. The engine line-up, meanwhile, will mostly remain the same which means Audi will continue with its V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engine options. However, certain Euro-spec A8s would be available with a four-cylinder engine option as well.
Audi is expected to reveal the new A8 by early 2017. Like the current model, there will also be an A8L and high-performance S8 version joining the new A8 range.
