The next generation Audi A1, scheduled to be launched in 2018, has been rendered. This will be the second generation for the German automaker’s entry-level compact hatchback and is expected to be offered in both two-door and five-door options.
This rendering reveals that the A1 will get Audi’s latest fascia which includes a larger grille and projector headlamps. The face also includes some chrome inserts above the fog lamp housing. Also visible in the rendering are bigger wheels and a chrome outline for the window section. Our sources suggest that this new car will also be bigger inside but lighter at the same time thanks to use of light-weight materials.
It will be offered with a variety of three-cylinder and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Transmission options are expected to include manuals as well as automatic across both engine options.
The Audi A1 sits below the A3 in the Ingolstadt based automaker’s hierarchy. It competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1 Series and the Volvo V40 hatchback. Though we have most of the A1’s rivals in India we are currently not a market open to such small luxury cars and are unlikely to see the car on our roads any time soon.
