Sources in Japan have reported that the Toyota Corolla is next to receive a BMW motor in the near future.
In 2011, BMW and Toyota inked a deal where both brands where to work together in building eco-friendly engines. A part of the deal also states that BMW is to supply their 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel motors to Toyota beginning from 2014. Which is why examples from Toyota like the Verso MPV and Avensis saloon can be seen with BMW diesel powerplants.
Although there’s no confirmation, it looks as though the Corolla may get either, or both of these motors which may ideally be seen on the range-topping models. The twelfth generation Corolla, expected by the end of 2018, should be an all-new model that will be underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).
On a different note, BMW and Toyota has already agreed to jointly develop a sports car that may be due by early 2018. This car could form the basis for a Toyota Supra revival, while also serving the purpose of a successor to the BMW Z4. Stay tuned to CarWale for more information on their plans in the time to come.
