The next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLE will go on sale in 2018, but as these spy pictures show, this upcoming model is already out and about. The 2018 GLE is in its early stages of testing and it will be sometime till we see prototypes wearing production-spec body.
The 2018 model will be the real GLE Class since the current car is basically a rebadged ML facelift, as a part of Mercedes’ new naming structure for its models. The entry-level 2018 GLE will weigh less than two tonnes and is rumoured to skip all-wheel drive in favour of lightness. BMW, as we know, is already doing so with the entry-level X5 which is rear-wheel drive only.
Under the hood, the new GLE will be offered in a variety of new and revised petrol and diesel engines. The fuel consumption all over the range is expected to go down by a significant 20 per cent.
Given that the GLE is one of the hot selling models for Mercedes-Benz India, one can expect the 2018 model to be introduced locally within a year of its global debut.
