In a recent interview, Mr Y.K. Koo, Managing Director Hyundai Motors India, confirmed that the company plans to launch four to five vehicles this year. One of them is the next-generation Elantra, which is scheduled for launch in the month of August.
Hyundai will introduce limited editions of the Xcent and the Grand i10 in April and May respectively. There won’t be any launches in the following two months and the next inline is the new Elantar to take on the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Superb, Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Jetta.
The sixth generation model was unveiled last year and is both longer and wider than the outgoing car. It might not have much of a bearing on the cabin space though, since the wheelbase of the car hasn’t changed. The D-Segment sedan sports the new fluidic design and is more aggressive looking than the outgoing model.
For Indian market, the Elantra will be offered with the 1.8-litre petrol mill making 147bhp and 178Nm; the diesel will use the 1.6-litre turbocharged unit producing 126bhp and 260Nm. It will continue to be one of the most feature rich cars in the segment offering everything from the touch-screen music system to ventilated seats.
The new Elantra will replace the current model with the price starting around Rs 15 lakh, in August. It will be followed by the launch of the new Tucson in India during the festive season.
