While the next generation BMW 7 Series is still quite some time away from its official launch, new details related to the luxury sedan continue to emerge.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, BMW is developing a new touch-sensitive infotainment system designed on the lines of a typical smartphone or a tablet. Moreover, the new 7 Series would be offered with an optional information system for the front seat passenger. What this means is that the passenger in the front will have access to the host of infotainment systems without having to fiddle with the driver's various driver aids and systems.
The report further goes on to state that the next-gen 7 Series will also have improved Active Driving Assistance and an autonomous parking system.
Apart from being more technically advanced than ever, the next-gen 7 Series will be significantly lighter and more efficient too. Going by previous reports, the luxury sedan could benefit from weight savings of as much as 170 kilogram, thanks to extensive usage of carbon fibre reinforced plastic, aluminium and magnesium in the car's construction.
The next-gen 7 Series will be shown sometime next year followed by an official launch during the year end. As usual, it will compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8 in the full- size luxury sedan segment.
