The leaked sketch of the next generation BMW 3 series indicates that the new car will carry styling cues from its elder sibling, the 5 series. The new 3 series in works is code named G20 and will replace the current 3 series F30 in the global market.
The leaked sketch of the new car suggests that its design will be sharper than the current 3 series, which means that the upcoming car is expected to appear sportier and sleeker. The side exhibits strong shoulder lines and the sharp creases. The fin like air-vent on the fender is also a smart touch. The sketch also gives a brief glimpse of the rear styling bits such as a futuristic tail lamp and a sporty bumper.
The next generation car is expected to be powered by BMW’s 1.5-litre turbo charged petrol engine for its lower variants. The current 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a diesel engine is expected to be carried forward with minor tweaks. Higher trim levels are expected to be offered with an optional ‘x-Drive’ all-wheel drive system by BMW.
The new 3 series is expected to debut in the 2018 Geneva or Paris Motor show and will likely hit the Indian market later that year. On its arrival, the 3 series will continue its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE, Volvo S60 and the Audi A4.
