Bentley’s current two-door Continental is known to be supremely luxurious and very quick, but never has anyone ever appreciated how agile and light it is on its feet. However, this notion could change for the good with the next-generation version of the Continental which is due in 2017.
According to a report by Autocar UK, the next-generation Continental could be based on the Porsche-developed MSB platform that will also underpin the next-generation version of the Panamera. Bentley, in all probability, could ditch the aging D1 platform for the lightweight MSB architecture.
The much more sophisticated MSB platform featuring a high quantity of aluminium could bestow the Bentley Continental with heavily rejuvenated driving manners. The platform will also enable huge weight savings over the existing D1 platform which has been in use for 12 years now. Besides an all-new platform, Bentley could also source Porsche’s upcoming V8 petrol engine which is currently under development.
