The inaugural Nexa P1 Powerboat championship concluded with the Baleno Booster Jets taking top honours. In second were the Llyod Dolphins and joining the two at the podium was MoneyOnMobile Marlins.
Leading all the way in the inaugural championship was Booster Jet’s Boat No.150 piloted by Daisy and Sam Coleman who scored 60 points, bagging full points in Race 1, Race 2 and the finale. Combined with the 29 points scored by their sister Baleno RS Boat (no.100), piloted our very own C.S. Santosh and Martin Robinson as navigator, the Booster Jets stood on top of the podium with overall 89 Points. Just two points behind, Lloyd Dolphins took the second position with a total of 87 points at the hands of Craig Wilson and William Enriquez in Boat no.21 and husband-wife duo Stuart and Sara Cureton piloting Boat no.11. MoneyOnMobile Marlins sealed the second position with 79 points. Team members James Norvill and Christian Parsons Young finished third in Race 3, whereas Boat no.999 of Norvall Brothers finished sixth overall.
The second Indian racer on the grid, Gaurav Gill of Team Ultra Shark finished a respectable fifth place and ended the championship with a total score of 34 points. Ultra Sharks teammates, the Jackson Brothers collected a total number of 30 points putting team Ultra Sharks in the fourth spot with a combined score of 64 points.
The winning team of Coleman siblings went home with a prize money of USD 12,500 (Rs 8.34 lakh). Finishing second Lloyd Dolphins walked away with USD 7,500 (Rs 5 lakh) and third place finishers Marlins were presented with a prize cheque of USD 5,000 (Rs 3.3 lakh).
After winning the race, Sam Coleman said, “After the two races on Saturday in 30-degrees heat, Daisy and I suffered and had to battle through the pain barrier to maintain our early lead. We like the tactical aspect of the team championship concept and with CS Santosh in our team we received tremendous support the India spectators.”
