- The Mk8 Golf will set new benchmarks in its segment.
- Production of the new Golf has also commenced.
Volkswagen has been delaying the reveal of the new-gen Golf for quite some time now. It was supposed to break cover at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and there were plenty of opportunities to drop the veil before that as well. Now, it is reported that the Mk8 Golf will finally be revealed to the world on 24 October at a special event at the company’s headquarter in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Our spy sleuths have already spied the new-gen Golf undergoing tests on multiple occasions. The prototype you see in the picture was spotted wearing the minimal camouflage and is the production-ready GTE spec. The Golf has been an icon since its introduction and is currently the German carmaker’s highest-selling model in Europe. And the new one will certainly set new segment standards, following suit of all the previous-generation models.
In terms of styling, there’ll be a new fascia with redesigned headlamps and front bumpers. Volkswagen seems to have played it safe with the traditional hatchback shape with sharper body creases and a familiar silhouette. There will be LEDs integrated into the wraparound headlights and taillights along with dynamic turn signals. At the back, the sleeker taillights will also be a part of the design. Meanwhile, the cabin will be kept abreast with new technologies as well as features. We know that there’ll be a floating infotainment system combined with an all-digital instrument cluster dominating the dashboard.
In terms of powertrain, there will be a 1.5-litre TSI with a smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol. The diesel might also be offered which will most likely be the 1.6-litre or a 2.0-litre TDI. Choices of transmission will include a manual as well as a DCT. Apart from a powerful GTI guise, the plug-in hybrid will also be introduced, but both of these will come at a later date.
Production of the eighth-gen Golf has moved to Wolfsburg from the Zwickau facility. More information on the upcoming new Mk8 Golf will be revealed soon. Keep watching this space for more updates.
