Peugeot, the French car maker, is all set to re-enter the Indian car market after an absence of almost two decades. While its India line-up is yet to be announced, Peugeot will reveal the new-generation of its flagship sedan, the 508, at Geneva, early next month. Inspired from the ‘Instinct’ concept, the Peugeot 508’s design is almost concept-like, except for the fact that it is the production form itself.
With the arrow-head shape which dominated the 3D design of the fascia, this Peugeot moves away from the gaping grilles for a sleeker front. The starry chrome grille sits atop the wide front bumper and is flanked by the twin barrel headlamps and a unique sword-like LED detail which runs vertically.
The profile, especially with the straight cuts and powerful lines, looks stately. With the flared wheel arches adding character, the planar tail section reminds us of the older Peugeots. But the interiors will certainly be ultra-modern especially with the I-cockpit design integrating all the driver aids including night vision. Being a flagship Peugeot sedan, expect all the bells and whistles in terms of comfort and safety.
The 508 will be offered with petrol and diesel engine options to start with, adding the PHEV powertrain to the line-up in due course of time. With the horsepower ranging from 120bhp to over 200bhp, you will also have manual and automatic gearbox options. While we are not sure if Peugeot will include this car in the India-scheme of things right away, we hope they do it.
