- Likely to be based on an all-new platform
- Will also spawn a mid-SUV Ford SUV
- Expected to be launched in India by late 2020
The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 was spotted testing in India earlier this week. The new set of spy images reveals the overall silhouette of the upcoming mid-size SUV. The new XUV500 is expected to be launched in India in towards the end of 2020.
The new-generation Mahindra XUV500 is expected to be longer and wider than the outgoing model. According to the spy shots, it will feature a long hood, and a squat stance. It gets the signature haunch at the back, which has been a prominent design element of the XUV500.
The new-gen XUV500 is likely to be based on an all-new platform, which will also underpin a new mid-size SUV from Ford. The new architecture should liberate more interior space, especially in the third-row, which is cramped in the current version. Previous spy shots have revealed that the new Mahindra XUV500 will feature plush-fitting door handles.
Under the hood, the new XUV500 is expected to be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre four-cylinder BS-VI compliant diesel motor that is likely to produce 180bhp. It will be offered with a choice of six-speed manual and automatic (torque converter) transmissions. It could also get a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. The new Mahindra XUV500 will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the Jeep Compass.
