- The new Thar is likely to sport 18-inch alloy wheels.
- It is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The second-generation Mahindra Thar was spotted undergoing its final stages of testing recently. This time though, the Thar was spotted in production-guise with alloy wheels. Moreover, all the body panels, bumpers, turn indicators and even the taillights look production-ready.
The new Mahindra Thar is expected to ride on 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels that are likely to be paired with 285/65 R18 MRF Wanderer tyres. The next-gen Thar will be based on an all-new platform, which will make it longer and wider than the outgoing model. And for the first time, it will also come with a factory-fitted hardtop as standard.
Inside, the new Mahindra Thar will get all-new interiors. However, a few parts like the steering wheel, gear knob, the AC controls and the seats are shared with other Mahindra cars like the TUV300. Spy shots have also revealed that it will get four power windows and three-point seatbelts for the front-facing rear seats as well.
Under the hood, it is expected to be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre BS-VI compliant diesel engine that will produce close to 140bhp of maximum power. It will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic gearbox will be offered at a later stage.
The new-generation Mahindra Thar is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February next year, while the launch might take place in early 2020. The Thar will compete against the Force Gurkha.
