Land Rover has released a teaser image while announcing the unveiling date for the new Defender. The new-gen Land Rover Defender is scheduled to make its global debut on 10 September, during the press day of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Interestingly, the new-gen Land Rover Defender has also been listed on the Indian website, which makes us believe that the company might consider introducing the new model in the country sometime soon.
It is believed that Land Rover will employ a new platform for the new Defender and the SUV will adopt a new design philosophy both inside and out. This means the design won’t be as rugged as the original Defender and there will be retro-futuristic styling all around the cabin. A while ago, Land Rover had revealed its plans for the Defender with 90, 110, and 130 versions, with the latter rumoured to accommodate up to eight people. It is believed that the first variant to go on sale internationally post its unveiling is likely to be the 110 with a choice of five, six or seven seats.
Powertrain details are scarce at the moment, but at the launch, there are reports of a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel under the hood. There’s also a hybrid powertrain plan for the off-roader, but that will come later. As for the Indian market, it will be the first time that the Defender will be launched in the country. More details about the vehicle will be known at a later date.
