- New generation G20 platform
- It is lighter and sturdier
- New suspension technology
The current-generation F30 BMW 3 Series has been one of the bestselling BMWs but now it is due for a change. The all-new G20 BMW 3 Series is already being teased and is set for its global reveal at the Paris Auto Show starting on 4 October.
BMWs have signature styling and hence, the cars, even though there is a sea of change underneath, do not look drastically different from their predecessors. The G30 also would have the same kidney grille and the twin-barrel headlamp setup with muscular creases on the bonnet. The headlamp-LED elements look like they have taken a cue from the 8 Series and they do look nice.
The seventh-gen 3 Series has lost more than 50kg weight and has been hunkered down further by about 10mm. Also, it gets new suspension technology which employs the lift-related damping system to iron out road vibrations and bumps. In terms of powertrains, the four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines are mated to the eight-speed ZF gearboxes and send power to the rear wheels.
Interior details will trickle all through next month, as the launch date approaches. The new BMW 3 Series will compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Audi A4, the Jaguar XE and the upcoming Volvo S60.
