After teasing it on numerous occasions, Volvo finally took the wraps off the new XC90 late last year. Designed along the brand’s new design philosophy which was first previewed in the Coupe Concept, the new XC90 went on sale in select markets in December last year.
The XC90 was recently spotted in a very snowy setting, somewhere in Europe. According to the report, the luxury SUV was snapped during a customer test drive.
The new XC90 is based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). This new platform gives designers the freedom to alter the platforms wheelbase, overhang and other dimensions to make it suitable for cars from other segments. The new XC90 is longer, taller and lower than its predecessor, though the weight hasn’t gone up significantly, thanks to the new lightweight architecture. It will be powered by the new and efficient Drive-E family of petrol and diesel engines.
With the new XC90, Volvo has put in all its expertise and technical know-how to make it competent enough to rival the likes of BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne and the Mercedes ML-Class.
