Toyota Kirloskar Motors is developing a new mid-size SUV to take on the likes of Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and the upcoming MG Hector. According to a media report, this SUV will be lighter, more fuel efficient and will be priced between Rs 15 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs.
Apart from the new SUV, Toyota is also working on a new C-segment MPV that will be jointly developed with Suzuki and will be positioned below the Innova Crysta. The Toyota C-segment MPV will also be offered to Maruti Suzuki for the Indian market. Meanwhile, the new Toyota mid-size SUV project is still in the early stages of planning and will take some time to get approval.
Although information on the new Toyota SUV is scarce at the moment, the source report claims that the SUV will get a pure hybrid powertrain. The new Toyota SUV is scheduled for a market launch in 2023. It will be preceded by the Toyota-badged Vitara Brezza compact SUV, which will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing plant in Bidadi, Karnataka.
