It’s too soon for another model of the Nissan Evalia, most would say, but spy pictures clicked in China, of not one but two visually different Evalia facelift test mules say otherwise. While one of the two cars seen here gets the typical Nissan V-shaped grille, the other gets a different grille with a new front bumper. Both the cars boast new design alloy wheels as well. One of them is also expected to come with a CVT gearbox.
The test mule with the new V–shaped grille retains the current car’s front bumper. The rear gets added reflectors that extend all the way till where the number plate is usually placed. Coming to the power under the hood, one can expect a 1.6-lite petrol that delivers 116bhp and 150Nm torque but more details are awaited to offer any sort of confirmation.
While speculations are on that this could be a China specific variant, there is also the possibility of it being a global model, thanks to the new grille and bumper design. Nissan would definitely be using this new design in its markets elsewhere.
Known as NV200 in other parts of the world, the new Evalia MPV seems to be a 2014 model, due for a debut later this year. In India, the Nissan Evalia MPV was launched in 2012 at a starting price of Rs 8.5 lakh. A mild facelift with additional features was brought in last month to probably boost sales.
The Evalia despite having oodles of space and a decent feature list has not been been a great seller for the Japanese automaker in India. It is likely that Nissan is banking on this model to make its presence felt in the competitive MPV segment. The Nissan Evalia competes with the Chevrolet Tavera, Toyota Innova and the Tata Aria.
