In all fairness, the Wagon R in India has stayed the same since its inception close to two decades ago. It has been a steady seller for the Indo-Japanese automaker thanks to new engines and achieving decent levels of refinement. But with the competition moving ahead, it is time for a new car and that is exactly what is in our leaked image for today.
The car in question is a Japanese model but is expected to be India bound closer to 2018. It hasn’t changed a lot from its predecessor and still has the tin box for the cabin and its tall-boy signature design. The fascia though, is brand new. The large rectangular grille in the front means business resulting in the air dam on the bumper undergoing a diet. The large grille and vertical headlamps make it look big from the front. The similarities with the older car are evident when you move to the sides. The windshield seems to be get more rake and the B-pillar tapers towards the top. The profile looks beefier with the cladding-like contours.
It will be a Kei car in Japan and will get the puny 600-odd cubic capacity turbocharged petrol engine mated to a manual gearbox. If it comes to India, it will get the standard 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine and the trusted five-speed manual gearbox with the front wheel drive setup. With last update to the Wagon R in India coming in 2013, the hatchback is due for a facelift soon which means the Japanese update might make it to India by next year.
