The Maruti Swift range is due for a generational change next year. This means we will have a new Swift and Dzire. But wait, that’s not all, there will also be a new Swift Sport which will come a few months after the standard cars are launched. In addition to the new design, this second-generation Swift Sport will also get, for the first time, a turbocharged petrol engine.
This engine is the 1.4-litre K-series mill and is expected to produce the same 138bhp. However, with a lighter body and revised five-speed gearbox, this new Swift Sport is expected to be much faster and quite a bit more nimble.
Given that India accounts for a significant part of the Swift’s sales, we can expect a desi location for the global debut of the standard hatchback. Based on this popularity, we sincerely hope that Maruti Suzuki will consider the next-generation Swift for the Indian market.
We already have an idea of what the next-generation of cars will look like (inside and outside) thanks to some leaked digital renderings earlier this year. It appears that Suzuki has retained the basic body shape but has added a whole bunch of curves and swoopy lines to bring its successful hatchback into modern times.
