Skoda has just released a new sketch of its upcoming model – the new Superb. Scheduled to make its world debut in Prague in the middle of February 2015, followed by its introduction at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the new Superb will go on sale in Europe in mid-2015.
The latest sketch reveals the longer and wider proportions than the current car. The looks of the new Superb takes inspiration from the Vision C concept which will preview a new design language for the Czech carmaker. Skoda says the design of the new Superb will be way more expressive and dynamic than the existing car. Looking at the pictures of the Vision C concept, we can’t help but agree. Although there are a lot of Audi-esque design cues, especially around the rear-end with the A7-like stubby bootlid and minimalistic taillights, the Vision C concept is striking indeed.
Mechanically, the new Superb is expected to be powered with a range of petrol and diesel engine options including the 2-litre TDI unit from the Passat which is rated at 190bhp. Also expected is the 280bhp, 2.0-litre, TSI engine which will replace the existing 3.6-litre V6 powered model. Additionally, there could also be a plug-in hybrid model with a 1.4-litre TSI unit paired with an electric motor.
While the global launch is set to mid-2015, Skoda India could introduce the new Superb by year-end or early 2016. The car surely will boast of a more striking design; however, it will continue to have acres of legroom and overall comfort, making it as spacious and practical as ever.
