After its unveiling at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show prices, Skoda has revealed the prices of the next-gen Superb in the UK market. The Superb 1.4 TSI has been priced starting at£18,690 (Rs 17.7 lakh) in the UK market. The ‘best Skoda ever’ has been priced cleverly in comparison to competition –Volkswagen Passat and the Ford Mondeo.
Ford has priced the Mondeo at £20,795 (Rs 19.67 lakh) for the base variant and the Volkswagen Passat costs £22,215 (Rs 21 lakh) in the UK market, this makes the Superb cheaper by £2145 (Rs 2 lakh) over the Ford Mondeo and £3565 (Rs 3.37 lakh) than the VW Passat.
The new Skoda Superb, is the best-looking iteration of Skoda’s flagship model that we have seen so far. The new car has an 80mm longer wheelbase than the car it replaces and 94mm more than the new VW Passat. The longer wheelbase has liberated lot of cabin space to be exploited and the car also gets a large 625-litre boot space (1760-litre with rear seats folded) and that is a lot.
The new Superb might not be a contender for the best- looking car in the world, but it looks elegant. Its design draws inspiration from the Vision C concept shown last year at the Geneva Motor Show.
The interior, again as indicated by Skoda, a year ago, has been worked on similar lines like the Vision C concept. Apart from the design, one can choose between four infotainment systems, a 610-watt 12-speaker Canton sound system, tri-zone climate control system, heated front and rear seats and a panoramic sunroof.
The new car gets a plethora of engines to choose from for the European markets. There are three petrol engines – 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI and two diesel mills – 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI to choose from. The choice of transmission is a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
We expect Skoda to unveil the car at the 2016 Auto Expo that will happen in February, 2016 and launch it at the same time. The Superb has been the best-seller in the entry-level luxury segment and with the new model we expect it to continue its lead in the segment.
