Motorists in India who have driven on national highways post sunset must be familiar with arrogant oncoming drivers who drive on high-beam and are totally unaware of low-beam functionality. Realizing this, the Haryana government in efforts to make our lives safer has made auto-dippers mandatory for new four-wheel transport vehicles in terms of Rule 106 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
As per law, vehicles without auto auto-dippers will not be registered by the local registration authorities until it complies by rules. Additionally, the registration process will only be completed when the auto dipper system is sourced by transport department approved manufacturer. On the other hand manufacturers are also required to declare that the system installation can be done without tampering the original wiring system. For final clearance, the manufacturers will also have to submit one sample of auto-dipper system with application on a transport vehicle which comes for inspection and verification.
Consequences of driving at high beam unnecessarily can be lethal for oncoming traffic as it instantly blinds them. The auto-dipper system is programmed in a manner that it automatically lower the headlight beam every time it senses an oncoming traffic, thereby not causing much trouble to oncoming vehicles. Moving ahead, existing vehicles in Haryana might also have to get auto-dippers in their vehicles. More details on the same will be known in the coming days and it is to be seen if there will be increase on vehicle prices as well.
