Its official, the first vehicle from MG (Morris Garages) will be called the Hector. This is a new premium SUV from the Chinese automaker and will be vehicle that MG makes its debut with in India in second half of 2019.
The car will be a rival to the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, and Hyundai Tucson and will be produced at a new facility in Halol that MG is expected to complete and put online within the next few months.
Through spy shots, we have got glimpses of the interiors as well as exterior design and so far know that this massive SUV will get a full LED lighting package, 10-inch touchscreen display and a segment first- 360 degree surround camera. We also know that it will be offered with both petrol and diesel power and in the case of the latter, word on the internet is that this engine will be a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.
We went to China earlier in October to see what MG was all about and can now confirm that the automaker will open 100 dealer touch points by the end of this year and follow the Hector, up in 2020, with an electric SUV and in all aim to produce one lakh cars annually. We’ve also looked why MG’s entry into India is so crucial for Chinese automakers in the Indian car market and you can read about that here.
One of the most famous Hectors is from Greek and Roman mythology and appears in the saga of Troy. Indians will be able to relate to this name by recollecting the 2004 Brad Pitt starrer-Troy. In this movie, the character of Hector is played by Australian actor Eric Bana.
