The most luxurious SUV from Mercedes, the hottest engine under the bonnet – here are our new spy shots of the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, caught undergoing cold-climate tests in northern Sweden. Well hidden under the massive plastic camouflage is the Panamericana grille that’s reserved to the hottest models of the Affalterbach power company. Other clues that hint to the AMG model are the bigger wheels compared to the standard model as well as beefier tyres plus the wider front and rear fenders.
While the current GLS 63 comes with the 577bhp 5.5-litre V8, the next generation should be powered by the more modern biturbo 4-litre V8 that already in use for other high-performance AMG models where it outputs far beyond 600bhp.
As the regular GLS won’t be available before late this year or early next, the AMG-powered GLS 63 will not go on sale before 2020.
