- Is the sixth generation of the E-Class
- Available with both petrol and diesel power
New E-Class India launch timeline
The sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be launched in India in the last week of October 2024. What’s more, the first buyers will get their cars during Diwali and sources indicate that prices will hover just above the Rs. 80 lakh mark. As is the case with its predecessor, it will be available with both petrol and diesel power and only in LWB guise. India is the only RHD market globally to get a car in this configuration. We have had a chance to look at the car ahead of its launch and you can check out our video listed below.
New E-Class design highlights
The new E-Class retains the silhouette of the outgoing model but with a new grille, wheels, and design for the taillamps. Inside, Mercedes has given the car a super screen with a 14.4-inch unit in the centre and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. The star of the show is the rear-seat package, which includes a boss mode, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, USB charging ports, and a full recline function for the left-rear passenger.
New E-Class engine options
On the engine front, the E-Class will be offered with both petrol and diesel power. Both are four-cylinder engines and in the vase of the E200, the output is 194bhp/320Nm. The diesel-powered E220d produces 197bhp/440Nm. Both get nine-speed automatics and a 48V mild-hybrid system as standard across both engine options.
Competition
The biggest rival for the new E-Class is the new BMW 5 Series, which was launched in India a short while ago. At the time of writing this story, BMW had not launched diesel variants for the 5 Series though they are expected to arrive in India by the end of the year.
