Maruti Suzuki Arena, the budget arm of the Maruti Suzuki sales network, is all set for a big announcement in the last week of January and we think it might be the all-new Wagon R. One of the stars in Maruti’s portfolio, the Wagon R has been hugely popular for the past two decades for being a spacious reliable urban tall-boy car. The first Wagon R was introduced in late 1999 and the launch of the all-new Wagon R to celebrate the 20th anniversary year of the hatchback might very well be on the cards.
Also, Maruti Suzuki has been testing the new Wagon R, the current Japanese model, for quite some time now in India and the test mules, both camouflaged and almost-production-spec, have been spotted quite a few times. We have already seen the regular petrol as well as the electric powertrains and the new Wagon R seems bigger than the existing one.
The new Wagon R might get a tweaked version of its current platform which might also be electric-ready, creating a pipeline for budget electric products that Maruti would want to develop for the future. Inside, the new Wagon R will continue to be beige and black and might get tweaked interiors but not too different from the existing layout to continue with the winning formula.
