Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its much-anticipated new generation Dzire in India tomorrow. Bookings for the compact sedan commenced from May 1st and the booked cars have started to arrive at the dealerships already. The brochure for the same has also been made available recently. The Dzire would be the third big launch from Maruti Suzuki this year after the Ignis and Baleno RS.
The current generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been around for five-six years now. It has been the undisputed leader in the compact sedan segment in India, selling an average of around 16,000 units every month. The new Dzire now is based on the same platform as the new-gen Swift. Built around the new HEARTECT platform, the new Dzire is lighter and stronger than the outgoing car. As a result, the new Dzire handles better than its predecessor without compromising on the ride quality. The design remains true to the compact sedan characteristic motif, however, it is more modern and well-proportioned.
On the inside, the beige treated cabin gets highlights in wood on the dashboard and a flat-bottom steering wheel. The layout is simple with the all-new touchscreen infotainment system scrounged from Ignis/Baleno with an automatic climate control for the top trims. The usual equipment list that consists of power steering, all four power windows, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors will be available bringing it at par with the competition. As for the safety, you have ABS with EBD and dual front airbags standard on the new Dzire.
Under the hood are those tried and tested powertrains – a 1.2-litre K series petrol engine and the reliable 1.3-litre DDis diesel engine. The four-cylinder petrol mill develops 83bhp while the gas burner churns out 74bhp of power. Both the engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. While you had a CVT option for the petrol before, the new Dzire will get five-speed AMT options for both the petrol and diesel engines.
When launched, the new Dzire will continue to be the undisputed king of the compact sedan. The price is expected to be on par with the current generation Dzire. We expect the pricing for the petrol to be between Rs 5.35 lakh to Rs 5.6 lakh while the top-of-the-line diesel automatic might go up to Rs 9 lakh (ex-Delhi).
