The entry-level small car space already is quite a lively segment thanks to the wide variety of choices currently available. It is about to get a whole lot more competitive now that Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Alto K10.
Launched at Rs 3.28 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the entry-level model, going up till Rs 4.07 lakh for the top-spec model, the new Alto K10 gets styling as well as mechanical updates in this new avatar. At Rs 4.06 lakh, the Alto K10 is the most affordable automatic car currently available in India.
As a part of its cosmetic upgrades, the Alto K10 features redesigned headlamps, a new two-piece grille with a chrome strip and a big Suzuki logo. The fog lamps are integrated in the lower half of the new bumper. At the rear, new design highlights include a pair of revised tail lights, bumper and the chrome strip at the bottom of the boot.
The engine bay of the car is now shorter, the width and height of the car has increased by 1.5cm. The updated cabin now gets a new dashboard, instrument cluster, steering wheel and upholstery. The new Alto K10 is powered by the same 3-cylinder, 1-litre K10 engine producing 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque that is commonly found in other Maruti models. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Maruti has used improved combustion techniques and an ECM remap to make the car more efficient, which at 24.07kmpl (ARAI) has the best in class fuel economy figure.
As one would expect, Maruti has priced the Alto K10 quite competitively and the AMT variant gives it an USP over its competitors. Speaking of competition, the new Alto K10 competes with the Hyundai Eon and the Datsun GO.
