- To be launched in India next week
- Was sent for tests voluntarily by Maruti Suzuki
Even before its price reveal on 11 November, the 2024 Maruti Dzire has made headlines by scoring top honours at the Global NCAP crash test. Notably, the car was voluntarily sent by the automaker for the safety test.
Coming to the results, the new Dzire scored a full five-star safety rating, making it the first Maruti car to score the highest star rating awarded by GNCAP. The sub-four-metre sedan scored 31.24 out of 34 points in the adult occupant test and 39.20 out of 49 points in the child occupant test.
Further, the bodyshell of the new Maruti Dzire was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings. The test unit in question was fitted with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse parking sensors, seatbelt reminder system, and a speed alert system as standard. For the uninitiated, the outgoing generation of the Dzire scored a two-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.
Speaking on the occasion, David Ward, Executive President, Towards Zero Foundation, said, “The new Dzire’s five-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result. We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”
