Introduction
Maruti has launched the next-generation Dzire in India with a starting price of Rs 6.79 lakh (introductory ex-showroom) valid till 31 December. It’s available in four trims, two engine options and two transmission options.
Prices and competition
Prices for the Maruti Dzire start at Rs 6.79 lakh and top out at Rs 10.14 lakh for the top-spec ZXi+ AMT variant. This is an increase in the range of Rs 23,000 at the entry-level and Rs 80,000 at the top end when comparing variant to variant.
When looking at immediate competition the Dzire has three main rivals- the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor and the Honda Amaze which will enter a new generation next month. When compared to the Aura and Tigor, the new Dzire has a higher starting price and higher top-end price but for this additional jump offers more features. The Amaze on the other hand has a higher starting price but tops out just below the new Dzire and this is considering the second-generation vehicle. We expect a price hike when the third-generation car is launched next month.
Among SUVs, you have the Kiger, Magnite, Exter and Punch all starting off below the new Dzire but topping out roughly the same point. They have almost the same features but with SUV styling and higher ground clearance.
Finally, when looking at the premium hatchback segment, we have the Baleno, Glanza and the Hyundai i20. Of these, the i20 is the most expensive both in terms of starting price and top-end price and this is not considering the i20 N Line.

Best variant to buy?
In our books, the ZXi variant works the best as it has all the good useable features offered especially if the additional one lakh is a bit of a stretch. The features offered on the ZXi+ variant are for want of better term ‘brag features’. Your driving and usage experience wouldn’t be affected if they were not present.
Engine options
The fourth-gen Maruti Dzire is powered by the automaker’s new 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine paired with five-speed manual and AMT units. The power output is rated at 80bhp and 112Nm. Also up for offer is a CNG version, tuned to develop 68bhp and 102Nm. The claimed mileages stand at 24.79kmpl for the petrol MT, 25.71kmpl for the petrol AT and 33.73km/kg for the CNG-powered model.
