- Next-gen Thar could make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo
-Â Will be wider and longer than the outgoing model
- Likely to be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine
The next-generation Mahindra Thar is all-set to make its foray into the domestic market in a few months from now. And, this is evident from the latest sighting of the purpose-built off-road SUV from Mahindra.
The test mule of the new Mahindra Thar reveals its production-spec front bumper, which will house the registration plate and fog lamps. The next-gen Thar will feature an all-new design, although, the overall silhouette will be similar to the outgoing model. It is expected to be underpinned by an all-new platform, which will make it longer, wider and more abuse-friendly.
Also a part of the package will be a completely reworked cabin. It will feature a new dashboard, comfier front seats and front-facing rear seats with three-point seatbelts. The steering wheel and instrument cluster will be carried over from the Mahindra TUV300. The new Thar is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February next year.
Under the hood, the next-generation Mahindra Thar is expected to be powered by an all-new BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that will be paired with a low-range gearbox and a four-wheel drive transfer case. It is expected to get pricier than the current model and will rival the Force Gurkha
