- New Thar is likely to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo
- Will be underpinned by a new platform
- Likely to get an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine
The new-generation Mahindra Thar was spotted during its final rounds of road testing before it is launched in India. The latest set of spy shots reveal some interesting details about the production-spec Thar.
The test mule is equipped with production-spec taillights, which are expected to be LED units; alloy wheels; and bumpers. Previous spy shots have also revealed its fascia. Although the next-gen Thar features an all-new design, the overall silhouette is similar to its predecessor. On the inside, the new Mahindra Thar will feature revamped interiors, replete with a new dashboard, front bucket seats and seat-belts for all rows.
The new Thar is likely to be officially unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. That said, it isn't known whether Mahindra will launch the new Thar at the Expo or soon after. Powering the next-generation Mahindra Thar is likely to be an all-new 2.0-litre four-cylinder BS-VI compliant diesel engine that is expected to produce 140bhp. It will be coupled to a low-range gearbox along with a four-wheel drive transfer case. And besides a manual transmission, it is also expected to get an automatic gearbox.
