New Mahindra Thar hardtop to feature a large rear door

The upcoming Mahindra Thar was spotted on a few instances in the past. Interestingly, this time around, the hardtop version of the SUV was spotted with a large rear door unit. Underpinning this next-generation Mahindra Thar will be an all-new ladder-on-frame platform, and the SUV is expected to feature larger dimensions, compared to the outgoing model. As seen in the images, the large spare wheel is mounted on the rear door. 

Powering the new Mahindra Thar will most likely be an all-new 2.0-litre diesel motor that is expected to make a maximum of 140bhp. It will be mated to a low-range gearbox, while a 4x4 drive-train is a given. The spy shots further reveal that the new Thar might also be offered with an automatic transmission. 

As for the interior, the new Mahindra Thar will sport an all-new cabin, a redesigned dashboard, new front seats and front-facing rear seats with three-point seat belts. Higher variants are expected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system and a multi-function steering wheel.
